SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal has called for a scientific approach towards determining the minimum support price (MSP) for all crops, criticizing the recent marginal increase for paddy.

Badal emphasized that the 5.35% hike in paddy MSP to Rs 2,300 per quintal for the 2024-25 kharif season does not reflect the comprehensive cost plus 50% profit mandated by the Swaminathan Commission.

He urged the formation of a committee, including farmer representatives, to calculate this cost, and criticized the lack of a procurement mechanism for crops like moong and maize.
