Maharashtra Faces Massive Electricity Bill Arrears: Fadnavis Reveals Shocking Numbers

Mahavitaran, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board, has been grappling with a massive accumulation of dues. Fadnavis, who also handles the energy portfolio, detailed that 1.55 crore consumers have defaulted, contributing Rs 58,776 crore in unpaid bills.

Furthermore, the interest and penalties on these overdue amounts have accumulated to an additional Rs 30,545 crore, exacerbating the financial strain on the state-run electricity provider.
