Landslides Halt Traffic on Badrinath National Highway Again

Heavy debris from landslides halted vehicular movement on Badrinath National Highway in Joshimath. Officials confirmed the highway was blocked at several points due to continuous rain-triggered landslides. Pedestrian movement has been allowed while efforts to reopen the road for vehicles are ongoing.

Heavy debris from landslides has once again halted vehicular movement on the Badrinath National Highway at Bhanerpani, Joshimath, officials reported on Thursday. The route had previously been blocked on Wednesday by a landslide near the Patal Ganga Langsi tunnel.

Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana told ANI, 'The Badrinath Highway 07 is blocked due to heavy debris falling from the hill on the road in Bhanerpani, Joshimath.' He confirmed that pedestrian movement has been allowed in Joshimath while the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and district administration teams work to clear the road for vehicles.

Recent heavy rains in Uttarakhand have triggered multiple landslides, leaving the highway blocked at various points. On July 5, traffic on the highway in Chamoli district was halted for several hours due to debris in two locations. Local authorities and police successfully resumed traffic after a three-hour operation to clear the rubble.
