Pilgrims Embark on Amarnath Yatra Amid Tight Security

Pilgrims depart for Amarnath Yatra from Pantha Chowk with enthusiasm, despite security concerns. With routes through Pahalgam and Baltal, authorities ensure safety amid rising terror threats. The 52-day pilgrimage started on June 29 and will conclude on August 19.

Another batch of pilgrims departed for the Amarnath Yatra from the Pantha Chowk Base Camp on Thursday, buoyed by high spirits and tight security. The devotees headed to the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps to seek blessings and strengthen their faith.

Organized by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Yatra offers two main routes: Pahalgam and Baltal. Situated in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, Baltal serves as a significant camping ground. Pilgrims like one visitor from Maharashtra expressed immense satisfaction, stating, 'For four years, I've been wanting to embark on this journey. This is a beautiful yatra, and everyone should experience it.'

Security remains paramount, especially with the rise in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. A recent ambush in the Kathua district claimed the lives of five soldiers. Consequently, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police issued an advisory on July 6, detailing specific timings and guidelines for National Highway 44 to ensure smooth and safe travel.

On July 10, Inspector General of Police of Kashmir, VK Birdi, chaired a critical security meeting at the Nunwan Base Camp, emphasizing coordinated efforts to secure the pilgrimage. The 52-day Yatra, which began on June 29, will conclude on August 19, as thousands of Lord Shiva devotees undertake this arduous journey in the Kashmir Himalayas.
