More than 60 villages in Balrampur, Tulsipur, and Utraula tehsils have been heavily impacted by floods caused by the overflow of the Rapti River. Continuous rains in the district and water inflow from Nepal have pushed the river beyond its danger mark, creating a severe crisis in the Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The district administration has activated flood posts and residents have resorted to using boats. So far, three people have drowned. With three feet of water near Laukahwa village on Hariharganj Lalia Road, pedestrian and small vehicle movement is restricted. Traffic is halted on Lalia Maharajganj Road and Gaura Road in Tulsipur is experiencing one foot of water.
In response to the flooding, 32 flood posts have been staffed with SDRF, PAC, and Revenue and Health Department teams. 25 boats are being utilized for relief and rescue operations, along with 18 animal camps. State Water Resources and Flood Relief Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, along with Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad, visited the area to review the relief efforts.
Minister Singh noted that continuous heavy rains in Nepal, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh have exacerbated the situation but assured that the government is actively working to prevent loss of public funds. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to visit the flood-stricken areas today to distribute relief materials and meet with victims. The floods have been particularly devastating in the Purvanchal region, affecting districts like Balrampur, Shravasti, Basti, Gorakhpur, and Ballia.
