BSF Apprehends Five Bangladeshi Nationals at Agartala Railway Station

The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals from Agartala Railway Station while crossing the international border on Thursday, officials reported. Among the detained were a minor and a woman.
"On July 11, 2024, at approximately 0730 hours, a Joint Operation Party comprising the BSF Anti Human Trafficking Unit and Special Branch Police Station Amtali conducted a special operation based on specific information. During this operation, five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Agartala Railway Station while attempting to board the Agartala - Lokmanya Tilak Express," authorities stated.
The detainees were identified as Md Safiqul Islam (32), Samim Reja (9), Selina Bibi (20), Ibrahim Sardar (24), and Simul Hussain (28). Preliminary questioning by BSF and the Police is ongoing. Further details are awaited.
Earlier, on July 2, authorities apprehended 11 Bangladeshi nationals, including six women and their children, at Agartala Railway Station on June 30, 2024, in another significant operation based on confidential information.
"They were attempting unauthorized entry into India from Bangladesh, intending to travel to Bengaluru and Kashmir by train," said Tapas Das, Officer in Charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Agartala. The case is filed at the Agartala GRP Police Station and will be presented before the magistrate.
This incident highlights the persistent challenges in border security and immigration enforcement between India and Bangladesh.
