Amid allegations of irregularities in the NEET 2024 examination, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president K Annamalai on Thursday asserted that the paper leak was a 'localized leak' that has been controlled. He criticized opposition parties for fear-mongering, citing a survey conducted by IIT Madras that confirmed the containment of the leak. 'The fear-mongering of opposition parties can be put to rest now,' Annamalai told ANI, highlighting the Supreme Court's recent acknowledgment that the leak did not seem widespread.

On July 8, the Supreme Court unequivocally stated that the NEET-UG held on May 5 was compromised by a question paper leak. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, instructed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to outline the steps taken to identify candidates and centers involved in the leak. Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra also mandated the NTA to report on its methods for determining how the leak was disseminated.

The bench emphasized the undeniable occurrence of a paper leak in the NEET-UG exam. They stressed the need to determine whether the leak's nature was widespread or isolated, to decide on a potential re-test. The apex court reviewed multiple pleas seeking to annul the NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct a fresh examination due to alleged paper leaks and malpractices.

The May 5, 2024, NEET-UG exam has been embroiled in controversy, with accusations of cheating and impersonation. The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exam, has faced intense scrutiny, leading to widespread protests and legal challenges. Consequently, the Union Health Ministry has postponed the NEET-PG 2024 exam, with new dates yet to be announced. The government has since replaced the chief of the NTA and formed a committee to review and enhance its operations.

The NEET-UG examination, managed by the NTA, serves as the gateway for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and related courses in both government and private institutions across India. This year, the exam occurred at 4,750 centers nationwide and saw participation from approximately 24 lakh candidates.
