Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc announced on Thursday its partnership with Serentica Renewables to receive power supply for its operational business units in Rajasthan. This move is part of its broader effort to integrate renewable energy into its power mix.
The company highlighted that this initiative begins on Global Energy Independence Day and marks the first phase of renewable energy integration from Serentica. Hindustan Zinc aims to utilize 450 MW of power round-the-clock through this agreement.
Currently, Hindustan Zinc has a captive solar power capacity of 40.70 MW and relies on conventional fuels for the majority of its power needs. This new renewable power supply will significantly enhance the share of renewables in the company's energy portfolio, aiding in reducing approximately 0.45 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. 'This project will not only lessen our dependency on conventional fuels and shrink our environmental footprint but also steer us towards decarbonizing our operations, paving the way for a sustainable future,' said Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc.
