Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc announced on Thursday that it has begun receiving power supply from Serentica Renewables.
The renewable energy is being channeled to Hindustan Zinc's operational business units in Rajasthan. To mark Global Energy Independence Day, Hindustan Zinc declared the start of the first phase of renewable energy integration with Serentica Renewables. The agreement entails the continuous supply of 450 MW round-the-clock power.
At present, Hindustan Zinc relies on 40.70 MW of captive solar power and other conventional fuel sources. The new renewable power from Serentica will significantly boost the renewable quotient in their overall energy mix. This strategic initiative is aimed at reducing approximately 0.45 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability and clean energy.
Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, stated, 'This project will not only diminish our reliance on conventional fuels, reducing our environmental footprint, but also aid in the decarbonization of our operations, charting a path toward a fully sustainable future.'
Hindustan Zinc Ltd stands as the world's second-largest integrated zinc producer and the third-largest silver producer.
