IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, embroiled in controversy amid multiple allegations, has declined to comment on the decision to form a panel investigating her candidature. Transferred from Pune to Washim amid the allegations, Khedkar stated she is not authorized to speak on the matter as per government regulations.
On Thursday, the central government announced the formation of a single-member committee to verify Khedkar's candidature details. The probe follows accusations of her misuse of power as a civil servant. The Ministry of Personnel emphasized that the committee, chaired by a senior officer of the Additional Secretary rank, will deliver its report within two weeks.
The Ministry's statement highlights that the committee will investigate the candidature claims and other details related to Khedkar, who secured an All India Rank of 841 in the 2022 Civil Services Examination. Meanwhile, Pune Municipal Corporation plans to address illegal encroachments near Khedkar's family bungalow.
Khedkar, belonging to the 2023 batch of the Maharashtra cadre, drew attention for using a private Audi with a VIP number and beacon light, and making demands beyond her probationary entitlements. A report from the Pune collector flagged her repeated requests for office privileges, which were denied.
Accusations against Khedkar also include removing a senior official's nameplate in the Pune collector's office, and submitting potentially falsified disability and OBC certificates. Reports suggest she also presented a mental illness certificate.
In April 2022, Khedkar was called to AIIMS, Delhi, for verification of her disability certificate but did not comply, citing a COVID-19 infection. (ANI)
