Jalandhar Police have arrested Harpreet Singh, the brother of imprisoned Lok Sabha MP Amritpal Singh, in connection with a drug case, officials announced on Friday. Harpreet Singh was taken into custody alongside two other individuals, Sandeep Arora and Lovepreet, on Thursday evening, an official report stated.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankur Gupta of Jalandhar Dehat Police revealed that authorities seized 4 grams of a synthetic drug known as ice from the suspects. 'Three people identified as Lovepreet, Harpreet, and Sandeep Arora have been arrested. They were detained last night, and 4 grams of ice were recovered,' Gupta said.

Amritpal Singh, the Lok Sabha MP from Khadoor Sahib and a native of Jallu Kheda village in Amritsar, is currently incarcerated in Assam's Dibrugarh district jail. Before returning to Punjab in 2022 following the death of Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, he resided in Dubai. Post his return, Amritpal became the leader of Sidhu's pro-Khalistani organisation, Waris Punjab De.

Amritpal Singh was apprehended in Moga's Rode village on February 23, 2023, after leading a protest at the Ajnala police station, which escalated into a clash with police personnel. He and his supporters aimed to free an aide detained for making inflammatory and pro-Khalistan statements. The Punjab Police subsequently booked Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act (NSA), leading to his transfer to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam.

Amritpal Singh won the 2024 parliamentary elections from the Khadoor Sahib seat. He was recently granted four-day parole to take his oath as a Lok Sabha member in Delhi. (ANI)
