Essar Energy Transition, the driving force behind USD 3.6 billion worth of low carbon projects in the UK and India, announced the development of Europe's first 100 percent hydrogen-fueled power plant at its Stanlow refinery in the UK, expected to be completed by 2027.

This hydrogen-fueled power project is crucial for the UK's industrial and power decarbonisation efforts, aligning with government emission reduction targets. EET Hydrogen Power, a hydrogen-ready combined heat and power (CHP) plant, will replace existing boiler units at Stanlow, enhancing the refinery's sustainability by cutting total emissions by 95 percent by 2030.

The new plant will generate 125 MW of power and 6,000 tonnes of steam daily, delivering a significant reduction of 740,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. This initiative will also provide low carbon power to regional industrial users, further supporting their decarbonisation goals and contributing to the HyNet industrial cluster's broader objectives. The project underlines Essar Energy Transition's commitment to sustaining and creating high skilled jobs in the North West England.
