Indian techie Siddhant Vitthal Patil, presumed dead after a drowning incident in Glacier National Park, sent a text to his mother just hours before the tragic event, as confirmed by his family on Friday.
Last Friday, Siddhant called his mother, Priti, informing her of his three-day stay at the park with six Indian friends and expressed his enjoyment of the trip. Two hours before the incident, he texted her about his return to San Jose in three days, where he worked at Cadence Design Systems, according to his maternal uncle, Pritesh Chaudhari. Based in Pune, Chaudhari added that Siddhant's friends provided the IMEI numbers from his iPhone to park rangers and authorities to help with the search, but this has yet to yield results.
Priti and Siddhant's father, Vitthal, a retired Maharashtra government employee, are in shock. Suresh Sharma from the Indian consulate in Seattle, after receiving Chaudhari's contact, has been in touch with him. Leaders from Maharashtra, including Sharad Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis, have appealed to the government for assistance. Union minister Murlidhar Mohol updates External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the search operation. Despite aerial searches and drone flights, officials suspect submerged obstacles are preventing recovery of Siddhant’s body.
