Heavy rainfall in Valsad on Saturday has caused the water level in Madhuban Dam to surge, as reported by the Disaster Management Authority. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted even heavier rainfall for Sunday.
Disaster Management Officer Naseem Sheikh informed that the deluge has inundated many low-lying areas, flooding the national highway. Disaster response teams have been deployed to manage the situation, including draining water from affected regions. 'The increased rainfall has significantly raised the water level at Madhuban Dam,' Sheikh said.
In response, authorities released 10,000 cusecs of water in the morning and another 50,000 cusecs in the evening to mitigate the overflow. The situation led to the closure of 48 streets, and police were instructed to restrict movement in these areas. IMD Gujarat has also issued a heavy rainfall warning for the South Gujarat region, including Navsari, Valsad, and Daman, as well as Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
IMD predicts more isolated heavy rains in the Gujarat region, specifically in Panchmahal, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Surat, Dangs, and Tapi, and in parts of Saurashtra including Rajkot and Junagadh.
