The Maharashtra government has launched the Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana, aimed at facilitating free pilgrimages for senior citizens above 60 years. The initiative includes 139 religious sites, spanning 73 from across the country and 66 within the state, with comprehensive financial cover for travel, accommodation, and food expenses.

This scheme follows a Government Resolution issued recently, detailing the scheme that was approved by the state Cabinet last week. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced it in the legislative assembly, underscoring its significance for elderly citizens.

Notable pilgrimage destinations include Vaishno Devi, Amarnath Caves, Golden Temple in Amritsar, Char Dham Yatra, and more, along with 15 sites within Mumbai alone. Eligible individuals can receive up to Rs 30,000 in support, and a committee has been established to monitor the scheme's rollout.
