GMDC Secures Third Coal Block in Odisha, Adds Significant Reserve to Portfolio
State-owned Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has been awarded a coal block in Odisha, marking its third in the state. The Kudanali-Lubri coal mine, with a reserve of 396.10 million tonnes, boosts GMDC's total estimated reserves to 2040 MT, enhancing their operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

State-owned GMDC on Monday announced that it has secured another coal block in Odisha. This acquisition marks the company's third venture into coal mining in the eastern state.
The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) stated that this development represents a significant milestone, following the successful execution of a Coal Mining Development and Production Agreement with the Ministry of Coal for the 'Kudanali-Lubri' coal mine in Odisha.
The mine, which is partially explored, boasts an estimated reserve of 396.10 million tonnes (MT) of thermal coal. With the addition of this mine, GMDC's total estimated coal reserves now stand at approximately 2040 MT.
Roopwant Singh, the Managing Director of GMDC, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition. 'We are committed to driving growth and security in the energy sector. The inclusion of this coal mine in our portfolio is a significant milestone, strengthening our resource base and enhancing our operational efficiencies and cost-effectiveness,' said Singh.
The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited is recognized as one of the country's leading mining firms. The state-owned company currently operates five lignite mines located in the regions of Kutch, South Gujarat, and Bhavnagar.
