Ukrenergo Implements Emergency Shutdowns Amid Heatwave and Equipment Failure

Ukrenergo has initiated emergency shutdowns in seven Ukrainian regions due to a record heatwave and equipment failure. Intensified Russian missile and drone attacks have exacerbated the situation, causing blackouts and forcing Kyiv to import electricity from the EU. A recent equipment failure increased the energy deficit, prompting further shutdowns.

In response to a record heatwave and the failure of power equipment, Ukrainian power grid operator Ukrenergo has commenced emergency shutdowns in seven regions.

Amid intensified Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's energy sector since spring, the country has experienced frequent blackouts and has been compelled to import large-scale electricity from the European Union.

According to a statement from Ukrenergo on the Telegram messaging app, an equipment failure at an energy facility occurred last night, exacerbating the energy deficit, which led to imposed shutdowns in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad.
