High Court Accepts CPI-M Petition for Panchayat Election Security

The High Court of Tripura has accepted a CPI-M petition seeking better security for Panchayat election candidates. The bench will address the party's four-point demand on July 18, including online nominations and increased security. CPI-M also demands an inquiry into recent ethnic violence in Ganda Twisa.

The High Court of Tripura has agreed to hear a petition filed by the CPI-M, the principal opposition party, calling for enhanced security measures for candidates in the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections. Narayan Kar, the Left Front Tripura's convenor and former Rajya Sabha MP, announced the court's decision.

The petition, which includes a four-point demand list, will be reviewed by a bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice SG Chattopadhyay on July 18. Key demands include the introduction of online nomination submissions, an additional returning officer in district headquarters, extended nomination filing periods, and clearing access to block offices.

The CPI-M also seeks a thorough investigation into recent ethnic violence in Ganda Twisa, highlighted by Kar, who emphasized the importance of building community confidence and providing relief to affected families, beyond police action alone.
