Congress is gearing up for crucial meetings in Mumbai today to formulate a strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. Chaired by General Secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal and AICC Incharge of Maharashtra Ramesh Chenithalla, the discussions involve all senior state leaders.
In the recent parliamentary elections, Congress secured the largest number of seats in Maharashtra, with 13 Lok Sabha MPs. Alongside Shiv Sena UBT’s 9 and NCP (Pawar)'s 8 MPs, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won 30 out of 48 constituencies. A senior party leader stated that in addition to assembly poll strategies, the party’s stance within the alliance will be a key topic, given Congress has 38 MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly.
Following splits in the NCP and Shiv Sena post the last assembly polls, Congress will also discuss regional seat distributions and poll numbers. Meetings will commence at the Wankhede Stadium Conference Hall in the morning and resume post-lunch at Tilak Bhawan.
The recent Lok Sabha polls proved successful for the MVA in Maharashtra, securing 30 out of 48 seats. Congress aims to replicate this success in the assembly polls, targeting key regions like Vidharba, North Maharashtra, and Marathwada.
In Western Maharashtra, the INDIA bloc outperformed the NDA, securing 47.8% of the vote compared to NDA's 43.2%. The INDIA bloc also led in Vidarbha and Marathwada with 46% and 44.7% of votes respectively. (ANI)
