In a strong demand for financial aid, Delhi Finance Minister Atishi on Friday asked the Central Government for Rs 10,000 crore to bolster infrastructure development in the capital. She highlighted that despite Delhi's hefty income tax contribution of Rs 2 lakh crore, the city had received no return in the past year.
Atishi further revealed that Delhi provided Rs 25,000 crore as central GST, yet saw no financial benefit from this contribution. Addressing these grievances at a press conference, the minister emphasized that the funds could significantly improve the city's road, transport, and power sectors, along with adding to its beautification.
Since 2001, the central government had contributed only Rs 325 crore annually to Delhi from the central pool of taxes. However, this payment ceased last year, leaving the city without any central funds.
