Delhi Finance Minister Demands Fair Allocation from Centre

Delhi Finance Minister Atishi demanded Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre for infrastructure development. She claimed that despite Delhi's significant tax contributions, the city has received minimal financial return from the Centre. Atishi emphasized that the requested amount is a small fraction of the Central budget. Meanwhile, BJP refuted her claims.

In a fervent appeal, Delhi Finance Minister Atishi has demanded that the Central government allocate Rs 10,000 crore for the capital's infrastructure development. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, she lamented that despite Delhi contributing Rs 2 lakh crore in income tax and Rs 25,000 crore in central GST, the city has received almost nothing in return over the past year.

Atishi highlighted that ahead of the Centre's annual budget presentation, it's crucial for Delhi to receive more funds, which would be used to enhance infrastructure in road and transport sectors and beautify the city. She asserted that Delhiites, being the highest income tax payers, deserved a fair share from the Rs 2.07 lakh crore they contribute.

Countering her statements, Delhi BJP secretary Harish Khurana accused Atishi of lying, noting that the Centre's financial aid to Delhi had significantly increased from Rs 4,258 crore in 2015 to Rs 11,945 crore in 2022.
