AI: A Critical Tool for Doctors, Says Dr. Arjun Dang

Dr. Arjun Dang, CEO of Dr. Dang's Lab, emphasized that AI will not replace doctors but will assist them in better diagnosis and treatment. He highlighted AI's role at the 3rd CII Digital Health Summit and addressed challenges like data consent and cybersecurity.

Speaking at the 3rd CII Digital Health Summit themed 'Leveraging AI for Improving Health Outcomes,' Dr. Arjun Dang, CEO of Dr. Dang's Lab, asserted that artificial intelligence will never replace doctors but will empower them to provide better diagnoses and treatments. 'AI is assisting the doctor, AI will never replace the doctor, but it will be an assistant to the doctor that helps identify crucial abnormalities in the essence of time,' said Dr. Dang.

The summit, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Friday, also shed light on the challenges associated with AI technology in healthcare. 'AI involves a lot of data sets obtained from patients, making patient consent crucial. Additionally, cybersecurity is critical to protect sensitive patient data,' Dr. Dang explained.

Dr. Dang further elaborated on AI’s benefits in pathology, noting that 'AI reduces patient costs significantly and increases the impact on their overall care continuum.' He referred to a McKinsey study, indicating that AI can lower overall healthcare costs by half and enhance impact by 30%. 'AI is playing a crucial role in diagnostics, especially in pathology. Automated equipment can flag abnormalities in samples before they reach doctors for interpretation,' he concluded.
