Ahmedabad Boosts Safety with 205 Emergency Call Boxes for Nirbhaya Project

Ahmedabad has installed 205 emergency call boxes in various areas to enhance the safety of women, children, and senior citizens under the 'Nirbhaya Safe City' project. These call boxes allow a two-way communication with the police for immediate assistance. The initiative aims to prevent crimes against women in public spaces.

In a significant move to enhance public safety, Ahmedabad has installed 205 emergency call boxes across various areas to protect women, children, and senior citizens. Special Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Chaudhary announced that this initiative is part of the 'Nirbhaya Safe City' project.

'For the safety of women, children, and senior citizens, we have installed emergency call boxes in 205 areas. If someone faces a problem, they can press it, and the police control room will receive a video call, prompting immediate assistance from the police. This is a two-way communication system,' explained Chaudhary, emphasizing that the project is funded by both central and state governments and averages 50 calls per day.

The 'Safe City' project endeavors to provide a secure environment for women in public spaces, allowing them to pursue opportunities without the fear of gender-based violence. The project, approved by the Empowered Committee under the Nirbhaya fund, is operational in eight cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow.
