Destitute Patient Abandoned by Doctors Sparks Outrage in Pune

A destitute man, Nilesh, was reportedly abandoned by doctors from Sassoon General Hospital after being admitted due to severe injuries. A social worker, Ritesh Gaikwad, uncovered the incident, leading to police action and an official inquiry. The hospital authorities have since suspended the implicated doctors.

An investigation has been launched after a destitute man was allegedly abandoned by doctors from Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. The incident came to light when social worker Ritesh Gaikwad followed the doctors late at night and observed them leave the patient under a banyan tree in Yerwada.

Gaikwad, a member of a social organization, alerted the police, leading to the re-admittance of the patient, Nilesh, who is now undergoing treatment. The hospital's dean, Dr. Eknath Pawar, confirmed the suspension of the implicated doctors and assured that stringent action would follow based on the inquiry's findings.

Nilesh was originally admitted on June 16 after a bus accident and had undergone surgery. The hospital authorities claimed he had absconded, but Gaikwad's intervention revealed otherwise, raising serious questions about patient care and safety at the facility.
