Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud reprimanded senior advocate Matthew Nedumpara on Tuesday for his disruptive behavior during a NEET-UG exam hearing. Nedumpara intervened to address a query meant for another lawyer, prompting the CJI to demand that he not interrupt proceedings. When Nedumpara persisted, CJI Chandrachud threatened to have him removed from the court, stressing that courtroom procedures are under his authority.
Despite the confrontation, Nedumpara expressed he felt unfairly treated but concluded his arguments by apologizing to the bench. He represents students demanding a re-test due to alleged exam leaks, though he maintained that the solution to the inconvenience was essential.
The Supreme Court ultimately refused to annul the NEET-UG 2024 examination held on May 5. The bench, led by CJI Chandrachud, determined there was no systemic issue in the exam's conduct. Though acknowledging leaks in Hazaribagh and Patna, the court found no substantial evidence pointing to a wider breach affecting the whole exam.
