ESIC Expands Coverage with 23.05 Lakh New Workers Added in May 2024

In May 2024, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 23.05 lakh new workers under its scheme, marking a 14% growth compared to May 2023. The labour ministry reported that 20,110 new establishments were also included, ensuring broader social security coverage. Notably, 48.37% of the new registrations were for those under 25 years.

The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 23.05 lakh new workers to its scheme in May 2024, the labour ministry announced on Wednesday.

In that same month, 20,110 new establishments were integrated under the ESI scheme’s social security umbrella, the ministry noted, thereby extending social security to more workers. The net registration increased by 14% compared to the 20.23 lakh registrations in May 2023.

Of the 23.05 lakh employees added in May 2024, 11.15 lakh, comprising approximately 48.37% of the total, were under the age of 25. Additionally, 4.47 lakh female members and 60 transgender employees were registered under the scheme during the month. The payroll data remains provisional as data generation is ongoing, it added.
