Two prime suspects of an organized interstate racket that duped people under the pretext of crypto investments have been arrested, according to the Cyber Police Station of West Bengal's Crime Investigation Department (CID). The cyber crime unit conducted raids and apprehended the suspects, identified as Manish Kumar and Satyendra Mahato, from Faridabad, Haryana, and Nihar Vihar, Delhi.
The accused in the Chandannagar Cyber crime Police Station case are now under a 12-day custody following their arrest and transit remand. CID's information suggests that this duo was part of an organized crime network targeting individuals across various states in India, tricking them with fake crypto investment schemes.
Both suspects were traced through an extensive technical analysis. Additionally, on June 27, Cyber Cell, South West District Police Station staff arrested Amrul Ansari, 24, from Jamtara, Jharkhand, for defrauding victims via phishing links. Ansari deceived people by posing as a customer care representative, persuading them to transfer money.
One notable case involved Neelam Gupta, who lost around Rs. 2 lakh after being tricked into making a small payment through a phishing link supposedly for a delayed Indian Post parcel. Her account was debited of Rs 1,79,000 and Rs 21,000, transferred to a Mumbai bank account. Technical analysis led to Ansari's location in Jamtara, revealing multiple SIM cards active on a single device linked to him.
A police raid in Jamtara resulted in Ansari's arrest and the seizure of four smartphones with SIM cards. Ansari admitted to his involvement in the crime and a prior cyber fraud case, with two more complaints against him found on the MHA portal.
