Delhi High Court Sets Hearing Date for BRS Leader K Kavitha's Plea

The Delhi High Court has slated July 31 for hearing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha's plea, challenging her arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi excise policy case. The hearing date was set after Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma reassigned the matter due to a change in the court roster.

In her plea, K Kavitha argued that her arrest and subsequent detention violate fundamental constitutional rights under Articles 21 and 22. She claimed that the actions taken against her are not supported by any legal provisions in the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. Additionally, she pointed out her responsibilities as a mother, which add another layer of complexity to her situation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has accused Kavitha of manipulating the Delhi excise policy and channeling ill-gotten money to Goa via hawala transactions. The chargesheet alleges that her associates, including Abhishek Boinpally and PA Ashok Kaushik, were involved in these illegal activities. On July 22, the Rouse Avenue Court took cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet against Kavitha, directing her appearance via video conferencing on July 26.
