Rajasthan's Minister of State for Energy Heeralal Nagar affirmed in the Assembly on Wednesday that over 98.23 lakh registered domestic consumers continuer to benefit from the Chief Minister Free Electricity Scheme. The Minister clarified that the scheme has not been discontinued or altered by the state government.

Responding to supplementary questions during the Question Hour, Nagar explained that this announcement by the previous government was made in light of the assembly elections. He pointed out that the registration process would've been unnecessary if benefits were to be extended to all 'non-registered' consumers.

Furthermore, the state government is absorbing the 'fuel surcharge' for domestic consumers using up to 200 units of electricity monthly. This is in accordance with the State Electricity Regulatory Commission's order, which is based on increased production costs and 'fuel variable charges' of power generation plants.

In an earlier written response to MLA Manoj Kumar's original question, the Energy Minister stated that there are no current proposals to reduce other fees and taxes or provide 100 units of free electricity to consumers equally. The government also has no plans to register deprived consumers for the free electricity scheme.
