YS Sharmila, Congress Andhra Pradesh chief, accused the BJP-led central government on Wednesday of neglecting to allocate additional funds for flood control and rehabilitation in the state. She argued that despite states like Bihar, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh receiving extra funds, Andhra Pradesh was ignored, even as the NDA is in power.
Sharmila alleged that PM Narendra Modi shows no affection for the people of Andhra Pradesh, suggesting that he believes Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will remain with the NDA regardless of relief efforts. She declared the Congress party as the only reliable ally for the state's residents in all circumstances.
To spotlight the flood crisis, Sharmila waded through waist-deep floodwaters at Nandamur village in West Godavari district, accompanied by Congress leaders and supporters. She interacted with villagers whose homes were submerged. Recent heavy rains in coastal Andhra Pradesh have caused four deaths and affected 259 villages across five districts, as reported by the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) on July 22.
