Odisha's Historic Budget Targets Holistic Development

Odisha's 2024-25 budget, presented on July 25, is historic with a focus on inclusive development. It emphasizes agriculture, aligning with PM's vision. The BJP's first budget for the state includes significant funds for agriculture, social welfare, and disaster management, aimed at comprehensive growth.

Odisha Minister Mukesh Mahaling hailed the state budget presented on Thursday, July 25, as historic. Mahaling highlighted the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana in Odisha, marking a significant milestone for the state.

Mahaling noted that several agendas from the Sankalp Patra had been integrated into the budget, emphasizing the government's intent to work in close consultation with the public. 'This is the people's government, and our aim is to take the public along,' he stated.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo termed the state budget as people-oriented, aimed at fostering the state's development. He mentioned that the budget addresses the needs of the poor, women, and youth, and includes both an agriculture budget and a general budget focusing on overall progress.

The Rs 2.65 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 was unveiled by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the finance portfolio. The budget surpasses the previous year's forecast by almost 15 per cent. Manjhi allocated Rs 33,919 crore to agriculture, a 36 per cent increase from the previous year.

In total, Rs 1.55 lakh crore is earmarked for program spending, Rs 97,725 crore for administrative expenses, and Rs 3,900 crore for disaster risk management. The historic budget underscores a commitment to comprehensive development across sectors. (ANI)
