Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit announced on Friday a significant improvement in coordination among Indian security forces to counter threats from Pakistan. He noted that although Pakistan cannot engage in direct combat with India, it tends to 'backstab' the nation.
'Pakistan cannot fight us directly; therefore, it always backstabs. Earlier, there was a lack of coordination. People were scared. But now coordination has been established between the BSF, Army, NIA, NCRB, IB, Army Intelligence, and Police, which has been beneficial,' Purohit told reporters. His remarks coincided with India's observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorated annually on July 26, marks the success of Operation Vijay in 1999, when India reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector from Pakistani intruders. Addressing his ongoing standoff with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Purohit stated his obligation to ensure uncompleted work is addressed, asserting that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has no reason to fear him.
'There is no need for the CM (Bhagwant Mann) to be scared of me. I give time to every party that comes to me. Why should the Governor be a problem for anybody... I will definitely ask them to do the work that has not been done. It is my responsibility,' Purohit said. Earlier this month, President Droupadi Murmu refused to approve a Punjab government bill seeking to remove Purohit as the Chancellor of state-run universities, prompting the state government to seek legal recourse.
The governor and the AAP-led state government have had several clashes, with the AAP accusing Purohit of unwarranted interference at the BJP-led central government's behest. (ANI)
