In a press conference following the NITI Aayog meeting, Chief Executive Officer B.V.R. Subrahmanyam addressed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim that her microphone was muted while speaking. He clarified that each Chief Minister was provided a specific speaking time, visible on screens at their tables, and that Banerjee’s designated time had concluded.

Subrahmanyam revealed that Banerjee had requested to speak before lunch, and this request was honored despite the alphabetical order. He noted that the Defense Minister allowed her to speak just before Gujarat. “Every Chief Minister is allotted seven minutes, and the remaining time is displayed on a screen. Banerjee used her allocated time and chose not to ask for more,” Subrahmanyam stated.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also dismissed Banerjee’s allegations, describing them as “unfortunate.” She emphasized that every Chief Minister, including Banerjee, was given their allotted time to speak, which was displayed on the screens. Sitharaman encouraged Banerjee to request more time if necessary instead of leaving the meeting prematurely.
