The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has issued an urgent warning for residents in low-lying areas along eight rivers in the Krishna and Cauvery basins, where water levels have surpassed dangerous levels.

As of Saturday, severe flooding is reported in the Krishna basin at Ghataprabha, Kumudvati, and Tunga rivers. In the Cauvery basin, Hemavathi, Harangi, and Cauvery rivers are expected to inundate low-lying areas. Rising water levels are primarily due to torrential rains.

District collector Shilpa Nag C T has alerted several villages in Chamarajnagara as over 1,70,000 cusecs of water are released into River Cauvery from Kabini and Krishnarajasagar reservoirs. Care centers for affected residents and sheds for livestock have been established. The state has experienced 57% excess rainfall, with significant deviations noted in several districts.
