Godavari Flood Alert: Water Level Surges Past 53 Feet

BHADRACHALAM: With the Godavari river's water level surpassing 53 feet, the Bhadrachalam Revenue Divisional Officer issued a third warning on Saturday, calling for immediate action, as stated by the District Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bhadradri Kothagudem.
The Bhadrachalam Revenue Divisional Officer sent an urgent fax to the Bhadrachalam Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Project Officer, Bhadradri Kothagudem Collector, and District Magistrate. The message declared: 'Godavari Floods-2024, Bhadradri Kothagudem District, Bhadrachalam Division & Mandal, Godavari Water Level reached 53 feet on July 27, 2024, at 4:16 pm. Third warning issued, and the forecast indicates a further rise. All the flood duty officers take action as per the Godavari flood manual.'
Due to continuous rain, the water level is progressively increasing. District Collector instructed officials to relocate people from flood-prone areas to rehabilitation centers, advising the public to follow administrative instructions closely. Residents should remain vigilant, avoid leaving their homes, and contact the control room for emergencies. As of 6:00 pm, the water level hit 53.20 feet, with a discharge rate of 14,36,573 cusecs.
The District PRO highlighted that in 1986, the flood level peaked at 75.60 feet with a discharge of 27.02 lakh cusecs, and in 2022, the water level reached 71.30 feet, discharging 21.78 lakh cusecs. (ANI)
