Massive Tree Plantation Drive by Defence Ministry to Mark Independence Day

The Ministry of Defence will launch a 15 lakh tree plantation drive across India to celebrate the 78th Independence Day on August 15. This initiative is part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, involving various defense organizations and encouraging nationwide participation for environmental protection.

The Ministry of Defence is set to initiate an extensive plantation drive, aiming to plant 15 lakh trees nationwide in celebration of the 78th Independence Day on August 15, according to an official statement. This initiative forms part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A Tree in the Name of Mother) campaign and will involve the three armed services, along with affiliated organizations like the DRDO, Defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, and ordnance factories.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, encouraging individuals globally and nationally to plant trees as tributes to mothers. In a show of support, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also participated in the campaign by planting a tree in memory of his mother.

Singh has called on citizens to engage in the campaign, emphasizing the importance of protecting nature and enhancing the environmental protection movement's effectiveness and dynamism. (ANI)
