Five More Arrested in Delhi Coaching Centre Tragedy

Delhi Police have arrested five additional suspects connected to the deaths of three students in a flooded basement of a coaching center. Officials affirmed seven individuals are now in custody, including the building owners. Protests by aspirants and closure of other coaching centers followed the incident.

In a significant development, Delhi Police have apprehended five more individuals linked to the tragic deaths of three students caused by a flooded basement at a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar. The announcement was made by DCP (Central) M Harsha Vardhan in an exclusive interview with ANI on Monday.

"We will leave no stone unturned in bringing the culprits to justice," Vardhan stated. With these new arrests, the total number of detainees in the case has risen to seven. Among the arrested are the owners of the building and a driver suspected of damaging the gate.

The fatalities occurred at Rau's Study Circle following heavy rainfall on Saturday. Previously, Abhishek Gupta, the building's owner, and Deshpal Singh, a coordinator at the center, were detained on Sunday and placed under 14-day judicial custody. The case is being prosecuted under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Amid rising tensions, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed 13 coaching center basements in Karol Bagh for breaching building bylaws. Protesters demanded regulatory reforms and better safety measures. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has called for stringent actions against non-compliant coaching centers.

"Action is mandated against all such coaching centers misusing basement spaces against the designated purpose,” Oberoi told ANI.
