Rahul Gandhi vocalizes discontent with the Modi-led government's compensation measures for the families of deceased Agniveers, arguing that they received insurance instead of actual compensation. He further criticizes the exclusion of Agniveer pensions from the Union Budget 2024, alleging an atmosphere of fear and control by a select few in India.

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, fiercely criticized the central government on Monday over the compensation provided to families of Agniveers who died in service, alleging that they received 'insurance, not compensation.' Targeting Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Gandhi accused him of lying about the Rs 1 crore compensation, asserting that the families were given insurance money instead.

'The Defence Minister had earlier claimed that Rs 1 crore was given to the family of an Agniveer, but he was wrong. The insurance money was given; there was no compensation. This is an undeniable truth,' Gandhi stated. He also slammed the central government for excluding Agniveers' pensions from the Union Budget 2024.

'The Modi government has trapped army soldiers in the Agniveer Chakravyuh. Not a single rupee is allocated for their pensions in the budget. You call yourselves patriots, yet you fail to allocate funds for soldiers,' he added. Meanwhile, sources from the Ministry of Defence said that families of Agniveers who die in active service will receive over Rs 1 crore, including insurance, ex gratia, Seva Nidhi package, and salary remuneration for the remaining service period.
