In a significant development related to the deaths of three UPSC aspirants at Rau's IAS coaching centre, the Tis Hazari Court on Monday ordered the accused into 14-day judicial custody. The aspirants lost their lives when the basement of the coaching centre flooded.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragic incident. The committee's mandate includes identifying responsible parties and recommending preventive measures. A Home Ministry spokesperson confirmed the formation of the committee through multiple posts on 'X'.
The investigation team will include officials such as the Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Principal Secretary (Home) of the Delhi government, a Special Commissioner from the Delhi Police, a Fire Advisor, and a Joint Secretary from the MHA, who will act as the convener. The committee is expected to submit its report in 30 days.
The tragic event occurred on Saturday night, following a burst drain that flooded the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar. The flooding resulted in the deaths of Shreya Yadav, Nivin Dalwin, and Tanya Soni, prompting the police to seal the coaching centre. The incident has raised alarm over safety protocols as the flood reportedly caused the single biometric entry and exit point to fail.
