PM Modi Assures Support to Kerala After Devastating Wayanad Landslides

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala's Chief Minister following massive landslides in Wayanad, pledging all possible help from the Centre. Modi announced financial aid for the deceased and injured. Rescue efforts are ongoing with involvement from multiple agencies and air force support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reached out to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to offer federal assistance following massive landslides that struck Wayanad earlier that morning. Ongoing heavy rainfall has compounded the crisis. The Prime Minister's Office announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Tragically, the calamity has claimed at least four lives, with many more feared trapped. On social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his distress over the situation and conveyed his condolences and prayers to the affected families. He emphasized that rescue operations are being conducted to assist those impacted.

PM Modi also communicated with Union Minister Suresh Gopi and BJP President JP Nadda, urging them to mobilize party workers for relief efforts. Meanwhile, medical establishments like WIMS Medical College have reported receiving four bodies and treating 48 injured individuals. Rescue operations are robustly underway with the combined efforts of Fire and Rescue teams, Civil Defence, NDRF, and Local Emergency Response Teams.

In addition, two Air Force helicopters, a Mi-17, and an ALH, have been deployed for rescue operations, as confirmed by the Chief Minister's Office. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured a unified and coordinated rescue operation. Health Minister Veena George announced the opening of a district-level control room to streamline emergency health services, accessible via the provided contact numbers.
