AIFTP Urges Extended Deadline for Tax Returns Due to Natural Disasters

The All-India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) has requested the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the Income Tax return filing deadline to August 31 for the assessment year 2024-25. The plea cites floods, landslides, and issues with the Income Tax portal and software as reasons.

The All-India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) has urged the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the income tax return filing deadline to August 31 for the assessment year 2024-25.

AIFTP national president Narayan Jain and Direct Tax Representation Committee chairman S M Surana highlighted that floods in states and landslides in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have severely disrupted the filing process.

They also pointed out ongoing problems with the Income Tax portal and software, making the process of self-assessment tax payments and downloading challans time-consuming.
