NDMA Issues Red Alert for Uttarakhand Amidst Heavy Rainfall: Relief Efforts Underway

The NDMA issued a red alert for Uttarakhand, predicting heavy rainfall in several districts. Commissioner Pandey inspected disaster areas, assuring residents of effective relief. Rs 8 crore approved for road safety; ongoing efforts continue in response to rains and landslides in Bhilangana development block.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a 'red alert' for Uttarakhand, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in several districts, including Dehradun, Champawat, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar. Following the directive of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey conducted an inspection of disaster relief camps and affected areas in the Tehri district on Monday.

Pandey visited several locations, including Government Inter College Vinak Khal, Tingarh village, and Budhakedar, to listen to the concerns of impacted residents. He held meetings in temporary relief camps, assuring the community of the government's dedication to sensitive and effective disaster relief. Chief Minister Dhami emphasized the importance of ensuring sufficient funds for disaster relief operations. During his visit, the Commissioner reviewed relief camp arrangements, calling for power backup, television access, children's education, and livelihood support.

Pandey gave directives to the District Magistrate for making alternate shelter arrangements for animals, providing fodder and water, and conducting a geological survey to identify land for the rehabilitation of Tingarh village. The geological survey is now complete, and in-principle approval has been granted. The Commissioner also announced the approval of Rs 8 crore for road safety in Budhakedar and directed the Irrigation Department to expedite the tender process.

Relief and rescue operations continue in response to the heavy rains and landslides affecting the Bal Ganga and Budhakedar areas of Bhilangana development block in Tehri Garhwal. Chief Minister Dhami received updates on the relief efforts from MLA Shakti Lal Shah and Tehri Garhwal District Magistrate Mayur Dixit on Sunday. Dhami also instructed the District Magistrate to promptly identify and relocate residents of sensitive villages to safer locations.
