Students Meet MCD Over UPSC Aspirants' Deaths Amid Flood Protests

A delegation of students from Old Rajinder Nagar met the MCD Commissioner following protests over the deaths of three UPSC aspirants. The MCD assures action on their demands, but students warn of intensified protests if promises are not met within the set timeframe.

A student delegation from Old Rajinder Nagar engaged with Municipal Corporation Development (MCD) Commissioner today in response to protests by UPSC aspirants concerning the recent deaths of three civil service candidates.

Sharad, a delegation member, reported to ANI, "We met with the MCD Commissioner, and approximately 20 students attended. We've been assured that our concerns will be addressed promptly. However, if commitments are not fulfilled within the stipulated timeframe—including compensation and other promises—we will escalate our protests to gherao Old Rajinder Nagar, Vidhan Sabha, and other locations."

The tragedy, which claimed the lives of three students, occurred when the basement of a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar flooded following heavy rains. The student delegation, brought by police bus, met with MCD officials, including Additional Commissioner Tariq Thomas, who acknowledged the lapses and admitted, "It is a failure for all of us and for me personally. This incident should not have happened."

Delhi Minister Atishi disclosed that the interim inquiry report by the MCD has been received.
