Uttarakhand CM Orders Inspection of Coaching Centres Amid Monsoon Concerns

Uttarakhand's Chief Minister orders inspections of coaching centres to ensure safety amid heavy rains and potential waterlogging. Focus includes parking arrangements and compliance with fire and electrical safety standards.

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Wednesday ordered a comprehensive inspection of coaching centres operating in the state. Dhami emphasized that on-the-spot inspections of arrangements for both teachers and students should be conducted.

The Chief Minister also directed Chief Secretary Radha Raturi to lead a state-wide campaign focused on improving parking arrangements at coaching centres to ease traffic congestion. Given the heavy rains and potential for waterlogging, Dhami stressed the importance of promptly inspecting coaching centres and building basements to prevent loss of life and property.

Following Dhami’s instructions, Chief Secretary Raturi urged all district magistrates to investigate the state’s coaching centres and buildings where human activities occur. Citing an incident in New Delhi where a coaching centre’s basement flooded due to excessive rainfall, she emphasized compliance with building bye-laws and safety standards. Raturi instructed the formation of district committees to inspect these facilities and address any deficiencies, with immediate bans on activities in high-risk areas during the monsoon season. All actions are to be reported within 15 days.

Furthermore, she called for checks on fire safety standards, ensuring availability of fire extinguishers, alarms, and clearly marked escape routes. The Electrical Safety Department was also tasked with verifying electrical systems, requiring necessary permits and certifications from building owners to incorporate suggested safety measures. (ANI)
