Three individuals, including a seven-year-old girl, are missing and feared drowned after rainwater flooded the basement of a house in Jaipur, Rajasthan, police reported. The flooding incident, which occurred Thursday, mirrors a recent tragedy in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar, where three UPSC aspirants lost their lives due to basement flooding at a coaching centre.
Officials stated the flooding happened in Jaipur's Dhwaj Nagar area early in the morning. Civil Defence volunteers and local police arrived promptly to initiate rescue operations upon receiving the alert.
Asrar Ahmed, a Civil Defence volunteer, indicated the water entered the basement on VKI Road No. 17 after a house wall collapsed. "This morning we received the information, and upon arrival, we encountered 30 feet of water. We are currently pumping out the water before we can proceed with the rescue. Three persons, including a child and a woman, are feared drowned," Ahmed told ANI.
Jaipur West DCP Amit Kumar confirmed three persons, including a seven-year-old girl, are missing. He emphasized efforts are ongoing to pump out the water and rescue the individuals. Heavy rainfall over recent days has led to widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions throughout Jaipur.
