Seven Injured in Building Collapse Near Kargil

Seven individuals were injured after a two-story building collapsed, allegedly due to nearby excavation work, in Kabbadi Nallah, Kargil, early Saturday morning, according to police reports.

The incident took place around 3:45 am, prompting a swift and coordinated rescue operation. The Indian Army, along with the Union Territory Defence Response Force (UTDRF) and local volunteers, successfully rescued seven people trapped in the debris. The injured were promptly admitted to the district hospital and are currently receiving medical care.

The collapse near Kargil's main market disrupted the area, causing traffic from the National Highway to be redirected to the bypass road. Senior officials, including Chairman Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil Jaffer Akhoon, Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Bala Shib, and Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil, visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts.

Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Bala Shib acknowledged the incident as a significant system failure. He announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the cause of the collapse, promising serious consequences for those found responsible.
