The Finance Ministry has mandated public sector insurance firms, including the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), to hasten the disbursement of claim amounts to the victims of the recent landslides in Kerala and their families, particularly in Wayanad and neighboring districts.

In a bid to provide speedy assistance, these insurance companies have initiated outreach efforts via local newspapers, social media, and other channels to communicate with policyholders in Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Thrissur. The Finance Ministry made this announcement on social media platform X.

''Following the tragic landslide incident and heavy rains in Kerala, the government has ordered Public Sector Insurance Companies (PSICs) such as LIC, National Insurance Corporation, New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance, and United India Insurance to offer full support to the affected, ensuring prompt processing and payment of insurance claims,'' stated a government spokesperson.

LIC has been specifically asked to expedite the disbursement of claims for policyholders under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. To facilitate this, the documentation requirements have been significantly relaxed.

In addition, the General Insurance Council will coordinate with the PSICs to guarantee quick processing and payment of claims, maintaining a daily report on a dedicated portal.

Committed to providing necessary aid without delay, the Finance Ministry affirmed its dedication to supporting the victims of this natural disaster.
