Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, emphasized on Saturday that the Lok Adalat aims to bring justice to the homes of people and ensure that the Supreme Court addresses not only high-profile cases but also focuses on 'Nyay Sabke Dwar'. Speaking at the commemoration of the Special Lok Adalat in the Supreme Court, CJI Chandrachud revealed, 'A senior government official remarked that he was unaware the Supreme Court handles such small cases, being accustomed to seeing major cases in headlines daily.'
'Many don't realize the Supreme Court's involvement in smaller cases. When questioned, I often explain that the Constitution, crafted by pillars like BR Ambedkar, included Article 136 to provide justice access in a disadvantaged society,' he noted. The establishment of the court was to ensure it reaches the lives of common citizens, embodying 'Nyay Sabke Dwar'.
Highlighting the purpose of Lok Adalat, CJI Chandrachud reiterated its role in bringing justice directly to people's homes. To reduce the backlog of pending cases, the Supreme Court initiated a five-day special Lok Adalat starting July 29.
Chief Justice Chandrachud urged citizens with pending Supreme Court cases to participate in the Special Lok Adalat for amicable and speedy resolutions. Lok Adalats play a crucial role in the judicial system, offering an alternative dispute resolution method to expedite settlements.
Cases with settlement potential, including matrimonial and property disputes, motor accident claims, land acquisition, compensation, and service and labor issues, pending before the Supreme Court, will be addressed to ensure swift disposal. (ANI)
