Indian Air Force Mobilizes High-Tech Radars for Wayanad Landslide Rescue

The Indian Air Force airlifted advanced radars to enhance search operations in Wayanad, hit by a devastating landslide. Rescue efforts, involving multiple forces, continue amid ongoing relief operations, as the death toll climbs to 308. Kerala Governor emphasizes coordination between central and state governments in this crisis.

In a determined move to expedite search operations in the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad, the Indian Air Force on Saturday airlifted one ZAWER and four REECO radars from Siachen and Delhi. According to a social media post on X, the IAF deployed Mi-17V5 and ALH helicopters for daring winching rescues from Sulur.

On the request of the state government, the radars were transported by AN-32 aircraft to facilitate deep search missions and aid essential services recovery, the post added. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts, emphasizing the collaboration between central and state authorities. "We are at a loss for words during this tragedy. Our priority remains on rescue and relief," said Governor Khan.

Governor Khan mentioned that the Prime Minister had immediately directed all central government agencies, particularly the defense forces, to respond rapidly after receiving news of the disaster. In an impressive display of coordination and bravery, three personnel stranded at Soochipara Waterfalls were rescued by combined efforts of the Indian Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force.

The death toll from the massive landslides on July 30 in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad has reached 308, as per Kerala Health Minister Veena George. The latest figures show 215 bodies and 143 body parts recovered, with the identification process underway.
