In a commendable act of bravery, Vansda Police in Gujarat's Navsari district successfully rescued several tourists who were stranded in Vangan Village. The severe stranding occurred after recent heavy rainfall led the Kaveri River to overflow its banks. The Navsari police have shared video footage of the intense rescue operation.
The footage reveals tourists clinging to ropes as rescue teams worked tirelessly to bring them to safety. Heavy rainfall has also caused severe flooding in Gujarat's Valsad, raising concerns as the Auranga River's water levels surged. Consequently, people residing in low-lying areas have been evacuated to safer locales.
For the last few days, Gujarat has been experiencing incessant downpours. Earlier today, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) stepped in to rescue seven people stranded in Hinglaj village of the Valsad district. The rescued individuals were identified as fishermen.
The NDRF undertook the operation in the early hours of Monday. Inspector Ramesh Kumar of NDRF shared that the district administration alerted them about the stranded fishermen due to persistent rain and a high tide in the Auranga River. Water from the river inundated nearby low-lying areas.
Kumar highlighted that the fishermen had no choice but to seek help as the water level rose alarmingly. The NDRF team promptly rescued them. Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel assessed the rain-induced situation in Valsad and Navsari through discussions with district collectors.
The Chief Minister directed the collectors to relocate residents from low-lying areas to safe places while ensuring vigilant management of the flood situation. Several districts in Gujarat, including Valsad, have been pounded by heavy rains in recent days.
On August 2, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning of rain and thundershowers in various parts of Gujarat over the following five days. (ANI)
